The Anointing

1st John 2: 20
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

The Greek definition of the word unction is the anointing and the anointing that we have received from the Holy One is the Holy Ghost.

In 2nd Corinthians 1: 21-22, we are told that He who established us in Christ and anointed us is God and He also gave us the Holy Spirit in our hearts.

The Holy Spirit stands as a pledge or down payment of our purchase by Christ, laying claim to us, until He returns to take us to be with Him.

Ephesians 1: 13-14
In whom also ye trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.
(verse 13)

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.
(verse 14)

To put this in today’s language; it is like going into a store and putting something on layaway.  No one can claim your merchandise if they don’t have the receipt guaranteeing that they paid the down payment for the product. Jesus paid the price for all of us on Calvary. Once we accept Him as our personal Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit is deposited into our hearts as a guarantee or down payment that He will return to claim us. He is the only one with the right to lay claim to us because He paid the price for our salvation and it is through the deposit of the Holy Spirit into our lives that this right belongs to Him.

Who is this Holy One?

This Holy One is Jesus Christ

Mark 1: 24 (A man with an unclean spirit is speaking)
….what have we to do with Thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who Thou art, The Holy One of God.

What does this anointing from the Holy One do for us?

The anointing from the Holy One teaches us about everything that Jesus Christ Himself taught.

St. John 14: 26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

St. John 16: 13
Howbeit when he the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

1st John 2: 27
But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Observation

The lessons that Jesus taught Himself as well as the lessons He taught through His apostles, cannot be learned and understood without the anointing of the Holy Ghost and you cannot receive the anointing of the Holy Ghost without having accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour. If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, why not accept Him right now?

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this; I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
..Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
