The Anointing

1st John 2: 27
But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

What is the Anointing?

The anointing is the Holy Spirit

2nd Corinthians 2: 21-22

(verse 22)
Now He which establisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

(verse 23)
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest (the deposit or down payment guaranteeing His return for us) of the Spirit in our hearts

The abiding of the Holy Spirit

When something abides in you, it is remains in you and is with you always. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit did not abide or remain in the believers, He came upon them for a specific purpose and when that purpose was completed, He left. During this time, the people were guided by the Laws of Moses, which were given to Him by God for them to follow. (See Exodus 20: 1-7)

When Jesus left the earth to return unto his Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts and teach us the things of God. Now, as believers in and followers of God, we don’t need the rules and regulations of the law to tell us when we do something wrong:  the Holy Spirit abiding within us informs us. (See John 16: 1-15)

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher

The Lord teaches us through His Holy Spirit whom He deposits in our hearts, when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour.

Hebrews 10: 16
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days (after Christ fulfills the law through His birth, death, burial and resurrection) saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them.

John 14: 26 (Jesus is speaking)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Abiding in the Holy Spirit

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and the Holy Spirit abides in you, you have a responsibility to abide in the Holy Spirit by being obedient to the teachings that He imparts to you.

Observation

Accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour is the most important decision that you will ever make in your life. Maintaining that relationship, through the guidance of His Holy Spirit is an awesome, personal responsibility that you cannot afford to neglect. Allow the Holy Spirit to abide in you and guide you, as you abide in Him by studying the word of God to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2nd Timothy 2: 15)

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this; I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. This I ask in the name of Jesus. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
..Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
