1st John 3:3
And everyone that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure. 

 

What does it mean to hope for something?

To hope for something means that you have a desire for something good and you expect to receive it.

What does ‘this hope’ refer to?

This hope refers to the return of Christ for His Church - those who believe in Him and follow His teachings, as outlined by God in His word.

1st John 3:2b
..but we know that when He (Jesus), shall appear (return for His Church), we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

 

Purification

The process of purification involves becoming free from sin and the guilt of having committed sin and can only take place through careful study of the word of God.  

2nd Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth

This purification sanctifies or sets a person apart unto God. All who have this hope of going with Christ when He returns for His Church will purify themselves by being obedient to the word of God

Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth



Observation

If you have hope of spending eternity with Jesus, it will not happen if you do not purify yourself by carefully studying the word of God and living according to the teachings that are there for us to follow. Church attendance and performing good deeds are all well and good, but by themselves, they cannot get us into heaven only a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can.

If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, why not accept Him right now?

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask your forgiveness of my sins and accept your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that you raised Him from the dead and because of this; I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
..Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
