Learning to Understand God

1st John 3: 8
He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Whoever practices a lifestyle of sin is living according to the lifestyle of Satan, the devil, because Satan is the one who introduced sin into the world.

Why Jesus came into the world

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into this world for one purpose and one purpose only – to destroy the works of Satan. He did this through His death, burial and resurrection.

His death signified the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.

His death signified the end of what was – the offering of animal sacrifices to receive forgiveness of sins. (See 1st John 1: 9)

Animal sacrifices were only a temporary fix for the forgiveness of sins, as each time a person committed a sin, an animal had to killed in order for that person to receive forgiveness. Now, through the blood of Christ, we have been forgiven of all sins, past, present and future. (Hebrews 9: 27 tells us that without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness of sins).

We receive the forgiveness of sins when we acknowledge and confess to God, any sin that we commit.

His burial signified his baptism into death

His burial signified his baptism into death, from which He would arise in a new and glorious immortal body – an immortal body can never die. We too will inherit this same type of body when He returns for those who live according to His
teaching, as outlined in the word of God.

His resurrection signified the birth of what is

His resurrection signified the birth of what is - new life in Christ.

2nd Corinthians 5: 17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.

Observation

When we by faith, accept the teachings of God about His Son Jesus Christ, we are born again – we become new creations in Jesus Christ. When we are baptized, we go under the water to symbolize the death and burial of our old way of life and when we come up out of the water it symbolizes our new life in Christ.

We grow into mature Christians by follow the teachings of Paul

2nd Timothy 2: 15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this, I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
...
Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
