Learning to Understand God

1st John 3: 9
Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for His seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin because he is born of God.

Whoever has by faith, accepted the teachings of God regarding His Son Jesus Christ, is born of God and cannot continue to practise a sinful lifestyle because the seed or the very nature of God is now in them.

We know that we will sin from time to time because we have not yet moved into our perfect bodies – that will not take place until Christ returns and takes us to be with Him. God has made provisions for us when this happens by letting us know in 1st John 1: 9 that if we acknowledge and confess ours sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Seed of the Woman – The Seed of God

After the fall
After the fall in the Garden of Eden, the serpent was cursed for allowing itself to be used by Satan to deceive Eve. What was the curse? God told the serpent that it would crawl on its belly; eat dust all of its days and there would be a never ending enmity between its seed (those who don't follow the teachings of Jesus) and the seed of the woman (those who follow the teachings of Jesus).

Why the seed of the woman and not the seed of the man?

Adam is the father of all living beings. When he disobeyed God, his seed became contaminated by sin. As his descendants, we have inherited all of his natural qualities. This means that because he sinned, we were also born with a sin nature. We have a choice as to whether we will sin or not but there is not a human being on this earth who can honestly say that they have never made a choice to sin either in thought, word or action. No one is responsible for the wrong you do - no matter how slight it might be - except you. The choice is all yours.

In order to have relationship with God, we must have the nature of God in us. This requires a different kind of seed - one without a sin nature. There would never be a human being on earth to fulfil this role because all human beings that came through Adam inherited his sin nature.

When God cursed the serpent, notice that He said that He would put enmity between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman - not the seed of the man.

Why did He specify the seed of the woman? Women are carriers and whatever is deposited within a woman is what a woman will carry. If a contaminated seed is deposited into a woman, she will carry a contaminated seed and as a result, she will bring forth a contaminated baby.

Immediately after the fall of Adam, God revealed His message of salvation as the seed of the woman that would bruise the head of the serpent. This seed of the woman would be of a different quality from the seed of the man Adam because this would be a Holy Seed without contamination.

The Holy Seed

Luke 1: 35 (The angel Gabriel speaking to the Virgin Mary - the earthen vessel through whom God brought forth His Son).
And the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore
that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Notice that even before Christ was conceived in the womb of Mary, He was referred to as that holy thing. Why? He was of a seed that was not contaminated by sin. He was coming through a holy seed and as the seed is holy, so is He.

Re-creation

When we - by faith - believe, accept and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as outlined in the word of God, His seed is deposited within us by the Holy Spirit and we are re-created and made new. In this way we are able to have a relationship with Him.

Acts 2: 38
Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

2nd 5: 17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

Without this re-creation you cannot have a relationship with God and the only prayer of yours that He will acknowledge is your prayer of acceptance of His
marvellous gift of salvation. Why not make that your prayer right now?

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this, I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
...
Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
